Morning Prayer, Friday, May 17, 2024 - WORD(S) OF THE DAY:  MY EMOTIONS

Father God, today, my desire is to walk in the Spirit, allowing You to lead me where I need to go.  Amen

You simply need to surrender them to God and watch His power rise up in you. “That's why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12.10 NLT).

“Don’t let your emotions be your decision maker.  Turn it over to God and let Him lead.  He will work everything out.” We are emotional beings. Some at a higher level than others.  All too often, we operate based on our emotions.   I remember years ago being in an emotional state about a situation.  When I would get in that place, I would go shopping.  At that time, I didn't have much debt at all.  On this particular day, to calm myself, I went shopping at Macy's.  I saw a rather expensive suit that I know I shouldn't have bought, but I purchased it believing I would feel better.  Over time, that kind of emotional shopping can be very bad for your credit card.  Some of us use other means to deal with our emotions, such as drinking, eating and even drugs. It really doesn’t make us feel better.  In fact, for some of us, things get worse.  A better route be to turn it over to God. When we learn to turn it over to God, the calm will come easy and painless.  That is not always an easy task you. God is not our first thought.  Most times, we run to Him when we have exhausted all of “our” options.  It takes discipline.  To get there, we have to condition our mind to say “No.”  Stop feeding your emotions the wrong food.  I fed mine with shopping.  At the time, I thought that was good.  When I knew better, I did better.   I'm grateful to God that I did learn a better way to deal with my emotions, and yes it did go through God.  Life is so much easier with Jesus.
